Creating an AI-Powered Wellness App to Support Everyday Health

OVERVIEW

VitalPath is an AI powered wellness app designed to help users track their health, receive personalized insights, and access reliable guidance in one place. This project explores how thoughtful UX design can simplify complex health information while supporting users with clarity, accessibility, and trust.

Summary


People often struggle to manage their health because their data is scattered across multiple apps, and personalized guidance is difficult to access. Users want a simple way to track their wellness, understand what their information means, and feel confident in their next steps. The challenge was to design a mobile experience that brings these needs together in one place, offering clarity, personalization, and trustworthy support through AI.

Research

Competitive Analysis

I reviewed three leading wellness apps including Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and Welltory to understand their strengths and uncover opportunities for improvement. While each platform offers robust tracking features, many present information in ways that feel complex or difficult to interpret. Key insights, personalized guidance, and navigation patterns were often fragmented across multiple sections.

These findings revealed a gap in the market for a wellness app that presents health data more clearly and provides guidance in a way that feels cohesive and easy to act on. This directly influenced the direction of VitalPath, emphasizing simplicity, clarity, and a unified experience for tracking trends, understanding insights, and receiving personalized recommendations.

User Survey

To validate the challenges uncovered during competitive analysis, I surveyed adults ages 25 to 45 who actively use wellness or tracking apps and received responses from 20 people. The goal was to understand how they interpret health data, what friction they experience in existing tools, and what would help them feel confident using AI driven guidance.

Persona

Based on insights gathered from the earlier research, I created a persona to represent the core user of this wellness app. Developing this persona helped clarify user motivations, frustrations, and expectations, ensuring that every design decision stayed grounded in real needs rather than assumptions.

Survey findings revealed consistent problems with scattered information, unclear insights, and difficulty understanding health trends. These insights shaped the core functionality and design direction for VitalPath.

Empathy Map

To better understand user motivations and frustrations, I created an empathy map using insights from the survey and competitive analysis. This helped translate the data into a clearer picture of what users say, think, feel, and do as they manage their health, guiding early design decisions for the app.

PROCESS

As the foundation for the app’s structure, I mapped out the primary flows that guide the user experience. Focusing on real user goals helped me shape pathways that feel clear, purposeful, and easy to follow. These flows clarified how each screen should connect, reduced unnecessary steps, and ensured the journey supports users at key moments, from logging a symptom to checking daily insights.

Wireframes (Lo-fi)

I developed low-fidelity wireframes to define the structure of the symptom-logging flow and test how users would move from screen to screen. Working in a simplified format let me shape the interaction, refine the hierarchy, and ensure each step supported users smoothly before introducing visual design elements.

Information Architecture

To establish a clear structure for the app, I created a sitemap that organizes all core features into intuitive, easy to navigate sections. This step helped define how users would move through the experience and ensured the content hierarchy supported their goals. By mapping out the relationships between key features such as health data, AI insights, symptom tracking, and care access, I was able to create a foundation for a seamless and predictable user journey.

Solution

I designed a mobile experience that brings clarity, guidance, and ease into one connected flow. The goal was to create an interface that feels supportive and simple, helping users understand their health information without feeling overwhelmed. Each screen was structured to highlight what matters most, reduce unnecessary steps, and guide users toward meaningful actions like reviewing AI insights or logging symptoms.

By combining a calm visual direction with organized layouts and thoughtful interaction patterns, the final solution creates a sense of trust and approachability. IMPACT

Designing VitalPath demonstrated the potential of AI powered wellness tools to make personal health management more approachable, understandable, and supportive. By grounding decisions in user needs and the challenges uncovered during research, the design simplifies complex information, clarifies navigation, and presents insights in ways people can actually act on. The final solution shows how a thoughtful digital experience can bridge the gap between raw health data and meaningful guidance.

This concept illustrates how a unified, user centered design could reduce confusion, strengthen daily engagement, and help people make more confident wellness decisions. If developed, VitalPath could offer a clearer path to understanding personal health trends, support habit building, and ultimately empower users to take a more active role in their wellbeing.

Reflection

Designing VitalPath strengthened my ability to turn research insights into clear, purposeful design decisions. The process reinforced the value of understanding user needs early, simplifying complex information, and creating flows that genuinely support people in their daily routines. It also highlighted the importance of clarity and trust when working with AI driven features. Moving forward, I would continue refining the concept through user testing and explore additional ways AI could enhance guidance while keeping the experience grounded, accessible, and easy to use.
